Kamala Harris, the US Vice-President elect, is currently California Senator and served as former district attorney and California State Attorney General. She is the first Black woman to be on a U.S. presidential ticket, hence will be the first Black Woman to be US Vice-president.


Kamala Harris ran for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination and ended her campaign on December 3, 2019. She was announced as Joe Biden's running mate on August 11, 2020 (see Joe Biden's Black Woman Running Mate: Kamala Harris)

Kamala Harris Background: A Historic First

Kamala Harris' background is interesting: she is Black and Asian American. She was born in Oakland, CA, in 1964 to Donald Harris, a Stanford University professor of Economics originally from Jamaica, and Shyamala Gopalan, an Indian immigrant and leading cancer researcher.  She attended Howard University — a historically Black college.

She will be the first woman to become Vice-President of the United States of America. Moreover, she would be probably the next democratic presidential candidate.

Kamala Harris' Experience: A Foundation to Build On.

Since 2017, Kamala Harris has served as the United States senator from California. Kamala Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She started her career working in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, then the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected to serve as the District Attorney of San Francisco and later, in 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014.

With her vast experience, as an attorney-general and a Senator,  both at national and local level, Kamala Harris is expected to play a major role 

Kamala Harris, as Vice-President, is expected to lead initiatives and  push for policies and actions that promote racial justice and break racial and gender barriers.
